I am trying to follow a book for the Az-204 exam. I am trying to figure out how to get access to the sandbox environment. I just want to follow the books examples. I would like to set this up in the correctly. If I get a paid azure account can I use the sandbox? Is there a paid sandbox account I could get since I am just learning I do not want to pay for something I might accidently setup while following the book.

The Microsoft Learn sandboxes, which were free environments used to explore Azure and other products through Microsoft Learn training modules, are no longer available. To complete exercises in training modules, you will need access to an Azure subscription. If you do not have an Azure subscription yet, you can sign up for a free 30-day Azure trial or a pay-as-you-go subscription. However, keep in mind that using your own subscription will incur charges for any active resources you create, so it's important to monitor your costs carefully.

If you're looking to experiment without incurring costs, you might want to consider using the Azure Sandbox environment for specific tasks, but you will need to ensure you have the necessary prerequisites and Azure subscription to deploy it correctly.

You don’t actually get access to the Microsoft Learn sandbox through a paid Azure account.

The sandbox only works inside the Microsoft Learn labs, and it’s fully isolated. I’ve seen a lot of people get confused by this when preparing for AZ-204. One of my team members ran into the same issue last month.

If you want to follow examples from a book, your best option is the free Azure trial. Just be careful with what you deploy, but honestly the trial is pretty safe and you won’t get surprise charges if you stick to the basics used in AZ-204 labs.

There is no “paid sandbox” from Microsoft. The only sandbox available is the temporary one from Microsoft Learn.
