i went to install office 365 and entered the activation key correctly.
originally the error was showing as invalid, then after several attempts shown as too many requests

When you tried to redeem the key, did you do it through the Office installer or on the Microsoft redemption page at redeem.microsoft.com? Also, can you confirm if the key is for a Microsoft 365 subscription or a standalone Office version? This will help us figure out whether the key is linked to your account correctly and if it matches the product you’re installing.
While we work on that, here are a few things you can try: First, wait for the cooldown period, stop retrying for at least 30 minutes to 24 hours, as repeated attempts will reset the timer. Next, redeem the key online instead of in the installer by signing in at redeem.microsoft.com and entering your key there. If it’s valid, it will link to your account. After that, download Office from account.microsoft.com/services and sign in during installation rather than entering the key again.
If the site says the key is invalid, it could mean the key was already used, is from a different region, or isn’t for Microsoft 365 (for example, it might be for Office 2021 or an OEM version). You can also clear your browser cache or try redeeming on another device, as cached attempts sometimes cause errors.
