On 18/11/2025, i installed the latest Windows security update. (November 11, 2025—KB5068861 (OS Builds 26200.7171 and 26100.7171).

This install appears to have deleted my soundcard. The only way of playing any sound through the computer is by connecting an external Bluetooth device.

It seems that the sound issue you are experiencing after the latest Windows update could be related to the audio drivers. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager and see if your sound card is listed under "Sound, video and game controllers." If it is missing or has a warning icon, you may need to reinstall the driver.
    2. Reinstall Audio Drivers: You can try uninstalling the audio device:
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Double-click on the audio device.
      • Select the Driver tab.
      • Click on Uninstall Device (do not select "Delete the driver software for this device").
      • Restart your computer, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
    3. Connect to Different USB Port: If you are using an external USB audio device, try connecting it to a different USB port. Sometimes, changing the port can resolve connectivity issues.
    4. Install Device-Specific Driver: If you have a specific driver for your sound card, install it before connecting the device. This ensures that Windows uses the correct driver instead of the default one.
    5. Check Windows Update: Ensure that your system is fully updated. Sometimes, additional updates may be released to fix issues caused by previous updates. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to check for any known issues related to the specific update you installed or consult the manufacturer's support for your sound card.

    Hello,

It is highly likely that KB5068861 caused a conflict with your internal audio driver, causing it to be unrecognized or hidden.

Please follow these steps to restore your audio:

    1. Reinstall the Audio Driver:
    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
    • If you do not see your audio device, click View at the top and select Show hidden devices.
    • Right-click your specific audio device (e.g., Realtek High Definition Audio) and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your computer.
    1. Manually Install Manufacturer Driver:
    • If the above does not work, visit your PC manufacturer’s official support website, locate your specific model, and download the latest Audio Driver installer manually.
    1. Uninstall the Update:
    • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates.
    • Locate KB5068861, select it, and click Uninstall. Restart your PC.

I am available to follow up if these steps do not solve the problem, so please let me know the outcome.
