Since installing update KB5066747 (Critical Update) on 7th December 2025, my right-hand monitor (Display 2) in a two-display setup keeps entering standby mode every 10-15 minutes.

What I have tried:

  • Checked all cables and connections
  • Verified the specific monitor's settings
  • Confirmed display settings for both primary and extended monitors remain unchanged
  • Checked power settings (monitors are still set to enter standby after the configured time)
  • Verified display drivers are functioning correctly
  • Updated NVIDIA display drivers to the latest version
  • I have switched ports with no difference

System information:

  • Windows 10 Version 22H2
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050
  • Both displays are connected via HDMI
  • KB5066747 (Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 and 4.8.1)

Additional observations:

  • Before the update, the Windows Start button on the taskbar only appeared on my left monitor (Display Monitor 1). After the update, the Start button now appears on both monitors.
  • The monitor goes into standby whether I am active on the PC or not
  • The monitor never wakes up on its own
  • In order to activate the screen again, I must turn the standby button off and on again

    Hi Nik_praying_for_patience,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum and sharing the details of your issue. I understand how frustrating it can be when your second monitor keeps entering standby mode after an update, especially when you’ve already checked cables, power settings, and updated drivers. You’ve done all the right steps so far, and I appreciate the effort you’ve put in.

Here are some practical steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1 - Reset Power Settings

    • Open Command Prompt (as Admin) and run: powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
    • Then reapply your preferred power plan.

    2 - Test Power & Sleep Settings

    • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep.
    • Temporarily set Screen to Never to confirm if the issue is tied to power policy.

    3 - Rebuild Display Configuration

    • Disconnect the second monitor.
    • In Device Manager, uninstall both monitors under Monitors.
    • Restart and reconnect both displays to refresh the registry profiles.

    4 - Check NVIDIA Settings

    • In NVIDIA Control Panel, set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.
    • Disable G-Sync or similar features temporarily if enabled.

I look forward to receiving your update. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.
