Hi Gin Hai Peh,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
This behavior is common on 2-in-1 devices because Windows automatically rotates the screen based on the sensor orientation. When the lid closes and reopens, the sensor may briefly report a vertical position, triggering portrait mode. Here's how to make your laptop stays in landscape mode:
1 - Lock Screen Rotation
- Press Win + A to quickly open the Action Center > Look for Rotation Lock option
- If it’s off, turn it ON > Your screen should now stay fixed in its current orientation
2 - Check Display settings
- Right-click on the desktop screen and select Display settings
- Make sure Display orientation is set to Landscape
- If Rotation Lock option is available, enable it here.
3 - Disable sensor-based rotation
- Press Win + R > Enter
services.msc> Look for Sensor Monitoring Service - Set its Startup type to Disabled > Restart your PC and check the behavior
4 - Check Lenovo-specific settings
- Open Lenovo Vantage/Commercial Vantage, or any Lenovo settings app.
- Check for locations like *Hardware Settings/Device/Display/Input/*etc.
- Find Auto-Rotation or Tablet Mode options and disable them.
When you close the lid, sometimes the sensor gets "confused" by the magnets in the lid or the hinge movement, thinking you've turned the device. Let me know If the problem persists or Rotation Lock isn't available!
