Created an account for my daughter and set it as admin for a newly installed laptop. However, seems that there is no parent/guardian account linked. The account tis not finalized and can only be done via a parent account. I keep going in circles but unable to get into the removePII @outlook.com account, and thus also unable to get into the laptop. How can I finally gain access to the removePII @outlook.com account?

To gain parental access to the account associated with your daughter's Outlook email, you will need to link a parent or guardian account to that account. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft account: If you have access to the parent account, sign in to it.
    2. Add a child account: Go to the Microsoft Family Safety page or the Microsoft account settings and add your daughter's account as a child account. This will allow you to manage her account and set parental controls.
    3. Finalize the account setup: Follow the prompts to finalize the account setup, which may include verifying your identity and confirming the relationship.
    4. Access the laptop: Once the account is finalized and linked, you should be able to access the laptop using the child account.

If you're unable to access the parent account or need further assistance, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for help with account recovery or linking accounts.

    Hello Wouter Muijres,

Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand you’re unable to complete setup because the child account requires a linked parent account and you can’t access the child account.

The root cause is that the child account was created without linking it to a parent/guardian account in Microsoft Family Safety. For accounts of minors, Microsoft requires parental consent to comply with child account regulations. Without this link:

    • The child account remains incomplete and cannot be finalized.
    • The system blocks sign-in on the device until parental consent is provided.
    • Access to the child account is restricted until it joins a family group and consent is granted.

To resolve this, you’ll need to link a parent account through Microsoft Family Safety and then finalize the child account setup:

Step 1: Sign in with a parent account: Go to https://family.microsoft.com and sign in with the parent, guardian Microsoft account.

Step 2: Add the child account to your family group

    1. Select Add a family member.
    2. Enter the child’s email address (the account you created).
    3. Accept the invitation from the child account.

    Step 3: Grant parental consent

    1. Once the child account joins the family group, you’ll see an option to provide consent.
    2. Follow the prompts to verify and approve.

Step 4: Finalize setup on the laptop

    1. Sign in on the laptop using the child account after consent is granted.
    2. If the device still blocks access, restart and sign in again.

Important: If you don’t have access to the parent account originally linked, you must recover it first via https://account.live.com/password/reset

Let me know how it goes.
