Issue with Azure account

Hi Team,

I accidentally created an Azure account with a Pay-As-You-Go pricing plan, and it is now asking for a GST number. I do not have a GST number.

I then tried to create a free account, but it is not allowing me—possibly due to the credit card already being used.

Could you please help me convert this account to a Free Tier account? I would like to use only this account: ******@outlook.com.

Thank you.

To convert your existing Pay-As-You-Go Azure account to a Free Tier account, you will need to follow these steps:

    1. Check Eligibility: Ensure that you are eligible for a free account. If you have previously used a credit card to sign up for a different Azure subscription, you may not be able to activate a free trial.
    2. Contact Support: Since you mentioned that you are unable to create a free account due to the credit card already being used, it is advisable to contact Azure support for assistance. They can provide specific guidance on how to proceed with your account.
    3. Consider Account Closure: If necessary, you may need to close your current Pay-As-You-Go account and then create a new Free Tier account. However, this should be done with caution, as it may involve losing any existing resources associated with your current account.
    4. Provide Required Information: When contacting support, be ready to provide your account details, including the email address associated with the account, to expedite the process.

Unfortunately, I cannot directly convert your account for you, but following these steps should help you get the assistance you need.

Hello Danam Reddy, Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Q&A forum

Unfortunately, you cannot convert a Pay-As-You-Go account directly to a Free Tier account. However, here’s what you can do:

    1. Create a New Free Account: Ideally, you would create a new Azure account for the Free Tier. However, since the credit card is already associated with your Pay-As-You-Go account, it can't be used again to create a new account directly. You may need to:
      • Use a different credit card, if available.
      • Wait for a while after clearing the payment method before trying again, if that option is feasible.
    2. Cancel the Pay-As-You-Go Account: If you don't intend to use this paid account anymore, you can cancel it through the Azure Portal and then try to create the Free Tier account afterwards. Make sure all your resources are either deleted or backed up.
    3. Support Request: If the above options aren't viable, consider creating a support request with Azure so they can assist you in resolving the account issue effectively.
