Why when I am assigned a task in MSPlanner I get an e-mail with a link but it doesn't go to the task?

When I am assigned a task in MSPlanner I get an e-mail with a link but when I click it, it doesn't take me to the task but rather the whole project. Before the swtich to Planner, MSProject would assign a task via an e-mail and one could click the link and it would take you directly to the task within the project. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

When you receive an email notification for a task assigned to you in Microsoft Planner, the link provided typically directs you to the entire plan rather than the specific task. This is a known behavior in Planner, as it does not currently support direct linking to individual tasks within the project. This differs from Microsoft Project, where such direct links were possible.

If you want to access the specific task, you may need to navigate through the plan to find it manually. Additionally, ensure that your users have a product license that includes Exchange Online, as this may affect email notifications and functionality related to tasks in Planner.

Dear @Teves, Nani-Contractor@Wildlife,Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand you’re seeing that when you’re assigned a task in Microsoft Planner, the email link opens the entire plan instead of the specific task. Previously, Project emails deep‑linked directly to the task, so this change can be confusing.

To better assistance, could you please confirm following information:

Is the plan added as a tab in Teams?

When you hover over the email link, does it show a Teams URL or a tasks.office.com link?

Were these tasks migrated from Project or created directly in Planner?

Does this happen for all tasks assigned to you or only certain plans?

Are you opening the link from desktop Outlook, webmail, or mobile app?

Do you have the Planner app installed in Teams, and is the plan pinned there?

Are you using the new Planner experience or the classic interface?

Your detailed response will help us diagnose and investigate the issue more efficiently.

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. If I misunderstood what you’re looking for, feel free to let me know or share a screenshot. I’d be happy to help further!

I'm looking forward for your reply.
