Hi @Harry Findley,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand your inconvenience regarding the issues you are experiencing with your device. I know you have been looking for a solution for several days, and it can be incredibly alarming to feel that security software is failing to detect an obvious threat.
After checking the screenshot of your screen, and I would like to clarify that Microsoft Safety Scanner likely did not fail.
The reason the scanner reported your system as "clean" is that the malicious activity is not a virus infected inside your Windows operating system files (which is what the scanner looks for). Instead, the issue appears to be external "spam" coming through your web browser and email provider.
Regarding the picture you shared, you are facing with two specific issues that mimic a virus but are actually different types of threats:
- Phishing emails: The "Final Reminder" email visible in your screenshot is not a real attempt to steal data. Because this email lives on the email provider's server (Gmail) and not on your hard drive, a Windows virus scanner cannot "see" or delete it.
- Browser notifications: The "posting every few minutes" experience is likely caused by a website that has tricked your browser into allowing "Push Notifications." This sends pop-up ads to your screen even when you aren't browsing that specific site.
To stop these intrusions, please follow these steps below:
Step 1: Revoke Browser Permissions
- Open your Chrome browser.
- Go to More > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Notifications.
- Review the list of "Allowed" sites. If you see any unfamiliar websites listed there, remove them immediately. This should stop the repetitive posting/pop-ups.
Step 2: Handle the Email
Please do not click any links or buttons in the "Final Reminder" email. Simply mark it as "Spam" or "Phishing" within Gmail. Your actual data is safe; the email is a bluff designed to panic you.
Please try checking your browser notification settings as described in Step 1, as this is the most common cause for the symptoms you described.
Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
I'm looking forward to your reply.
