Hello everyone,

I have saved a bunch of emails into the folder On My Computer/Inbox and would like to transfer them back the original inboxes as I can only access them when searching for them on my computer.
I am on a mac with an Outlook version Version 16.102.1 (25101829). I tried with legacy too but did not get to import them back either.

thanks in advance for your help!

To transfer emails from the "On My Computer/Inbox" back to your original inbox in Outlook for Mac, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open Outlook and navigate to the "On My Computer" section.
    2. Locate the folder labeled "Inbox" under "On My Computer" where your emails are saved.
    3. Select the emails you want to transfer. You can hold down the Command key to select multiple emails.
    4. Once selected, right-click on the highlighted emails and choose Move from the context menu.
    5. In the Move dialog, select your original inbox (usually listed under your email account) as the destination folder.
    6. Click OK to move the selected emails back to your original inbox.

If you encounter any issues during this process, ensure that your Outlook is updated to the latest version and that there are no restrictions on moving items between folders.

If you still have trouble, consider checking the Outlook support resources or forums for additional troubleshooting steps specific to your version of Outlook for Mac.

    Hi Chani

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum! Have a good day and I hope you're doing well!

I completely understand how frustrating it must feel to have important emails “stuck” in the On My Computer section and only visible on this one Mac. This is a very common situation, so please rest assured. There’s a quick and reliable way to move everything back to your original inbox.

In the current New Outlook for Mac, Microsoft has removed the traditional Import/Export features to focus on cloud storage, but the good news is that you can still move your emails from “On My Computer” back to your IMAP/Microsoft 365/Exchange inbox with just a few simple steps:

Method 1: Using “Choose Folder/Copy to Folder”

    1. On the left sidebar, expand On My Computer > open the Inbox folder.
    2. Select the emails you want to move (Cmd + A to select all).
    3. Right-click > Move > Choose Folder/Copy to Folder

    1. Choose the correct Inbox of your actual account > click Move.
    2. Once finished, please click on the original account’s Inbox > click the circular arrow icon (Sync this folder) at the top toolbar to ensure all emails are immediately synced to the server.

    Method 2: Drag & drop

    1. Select the emails > drag and drop them directly into the Inbox of your real account.
    2. Immediately afterward, click the destination Inbox and click the Sync this folder (circular arrow) icon to force synchronization.

    Note:

    • Legacy Outlook: a copy will remain in “On My Computer”.

    • New Outlook: the emails will be fully moved (nothing left in the old folder).

For IMAP and Microsoft 365/Exchange accounts: simply Copy/Move + click Sync and the emails will be uploaded to the server instantly and appear on all your devices.

For POP3 accounts: unfortunately, emails cannot be sent back to the server because POP3 does not support two-way synchronization.

I truly hope the information I’ve provided is at least partially helpful and gives you additional useful insights to support your workflow. If you have any concerns, questions, or if I’ve misunderstood anything or something remains unclear, please feel free to reach out anytime.

I greatly appreciate your effort and our collaboration.
