How to prevent Teams from ruining my URLs by truncating them?

When I paste a URL into chat, Teams truncates the URL like:

https://servernameredacted:8443/entity/open.act?id=4a9c5961ac10010f1c30bf181b659c4b&type=pa…

That's not a complete URL. When other people on my team click the link, it won't open because it is incomplete.

I don't mean just visually truncating the URL. Teams is breaking the actual underlying URL that you would get if you click the link or right-click > Copy Link.

How do I tell Teams to stop doing that? We share URLs back and forth every day - we are developers and we need complete and functional URLs. This used to be a seamless workflow but now Teams is making problems for us.

That is only a partial fix for part of the problem.

Not everyone will always go through those extra steps - and multi-key combinations are very difficult for people with impaired hand mobility.

Pasting URLs was working fine, but now Microsoft is literally deleting some of the information that we are trying to enter. This is unacceptable!

You mean working fine in the old Teams client? I can't recall back that far, but it wouldn't surprise me. I'm getting used to Ctrl-Alt-V all this time later, but I'm still not thrilled.

This issue reminds me of the inability to hit Enter in a chat, without sending the message, unless you use a special key sequence or enter a separate mode. It's another case of a baffling missing preference that every single other like program has.

Then paste URL (Ctrl + V) into the two fields to send the complete link.

Ryan, that is indeed another workaround. FYI, on my desktop version of Teams, Ctrl-K does not work until you first click the link for "show formatting options". This adds even more steps to get back the functionality that we had just a few weeks ago.

Microsoft should not default to deleting people's text!

Thank you for your feedback and sharing. I apologize that the previous method was not effective. Please follow these steps to clear the cache for Microsoft Teams:

Exit the Teams application.

Press Windows + R, then enter: %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams

Delete all files and folders inside.

Restart Teams.

If clearing the cache for Teams is still not effective, I recommend creating a support ticket with Microsoft Technical Support. Submit a ticket for a live agent so Microsoft can proactively contact you and assist with deeper troubleshooting to identify why the URL issue occurred without compromising any information.

Steps to raise a support ticket:

Step 1: Go to https://admin.microsoft.com

Step 2: Click Help and Support

Step 3: Enter the title: Support to check Teams

Step 4: Click Contact Us

Step 5: Choose the contact method where a live agent will proactively reach out and guide you step by step.
