Hello, ive just got this Dell from my Dad, and ive just realized every single screenshot will be sync with his current machine. To protect my privacy, i uninstalled Onedrive, but every single photo i open, it will keep poping up "this file does not have an app....". And most of the photos are saved locally. How this could happen and how to stop this?

It sounds like the issue you're experiencing is related to the uninstallation of OneDrive and how your system is handling file associations for images. When you uninstall OneDrive, it may affect how certain files are accessed, especially if those files were previously linked to OneDrive for syncing.

To resolve the issue of the "this file does not have an app" message, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check Default Apps: Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps. Ensure that you have a default app set for opening photos (like the Photos app or another image viewer).
    2. Reinstall OneDrive: If you want to avoid any issues with file associations, you can reinstall OneDrive and then unlink it from your account. This may help restore the file associations without syncing your files.
    3. Open with: Right-click on the photo file and select Open with to choose a specific application to open the file. You can also select Choose another app to set a default app for that file type.
    4. File Repair: If the files are corrupted or if there are issues with the file types, you might need to repair or convert the files using an appropriate tool.

These steps should help you regain control over how your photos are opened and prevent the error message from appearing.

    Hello Guy,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your situation I understand how frustrating it can be to see that message repeatedly especially after taking steps to protect your privacy. The issue occurs because uninstalling OneDrive can sometimes break file associations for certain image types leaving Windows unsure which app should open them.

A good way to resolve this without reinstalling OneDrive is to manually set the default app for your photos. You can do this by opening Settings, selecting Apps, then Default apps and choosing a photo viewer like Photos or any preferred application for image files. This ensures Windows knows exactly which app to use preventing the error message from appearing.

Could you check if setting the default app resolves the problem?

I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back

    Regards,

    Marcelo
