How do I remove drop-down menu from my Outlook Junk Mail box?

I noticed a few days ago in my junk mail box that all new emails were grouped under drop-down menus in my Outlook.com account. I do not recall changing any settings, and don't like it. How do I remove this setting? I haven't been able to figure anything out. Screenshot 2025-11-23 160800

This doesn't work either. The question is "How to remove drop down line when the 'sort by' is set to 'subject'". i.e. we want the emails grouped by subject just without the dropdown control line. We had an update and now it appears this line cannot be turned off. Can it?

I can confirm. With New Outlook for Windows App Version: 1.2025.1017.100 when you sort the message list by Subject (regardless of Message List Conversation setting) it is all hoarked up. Group dividers with a selection box and drop-down arrows.

I think you would be better served by posting this as a new Question instead of a comment on this thread since the solution for the Original Poster (Greg) was to just change the Sort to Date. i.e. He gave up on getting the Sort by Subject to work.

I didn't "give up" on getting "Sort by Subject" to work...because I was seeking to not have it sorted by subject. I just didn't know that that was what I must have accidentally hit to have the messages laid out that way. The solution for me was rather symbol. There is truly nothing wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Hi Greg,

What you’re seeing in Outlook.com is the “Conversations” view. This view groups emails by subject line into expandable threads, which is why each group has a drop-down arrow. It can appear unexpectedly if the conversation view setting was accidentally turned on or updated in Outlook.

To turn off the Conversations view and see emails individually:

Open Outlook.com and go to your Junk Email folder.

At the top-right of the email list, click the Filter dropdown.

Select Filter → Show as → Messages.

Messages will list all emails individually.

Conversations groups emails by subject (the current view).

After this change, emails will no longer be grouped under drop-down menus.

Thank you for that, as observed on the first screenshot, it appears that the view is set by Subject which cause the drop down to show.

To change it, please click on Subject to disable the view by Subject.

Please see sample screenshot to see what I meant:

Viewed by subject ( arrow drop down arrow facing down which is what you can see from your end )

This did not work, either. But what I found was that in the upper-right, two over from "Filter" was an option to "Sort by" and I clicked on "Date" to sort-by date. That seems to have worked.

If you want to remove Conversation Grouping from all folders.

What I ended up finding was that the way to change this was in the upper-righthand side of the screen. I changed it to "By date" and that ended up fixing it, where before it was by "Subject."
