My surface laptop 2 turns my audio up, stops taking keyboard inputs, types '7ypagb infinitely in any text box, and makes it hard to move and click with the crosshair, when I reset sends me to to the UFI screen. this has been happening on and off for about a year. It usually all stops if I hold the a or caps lock but this is temporary. I've tried doing all the reset redownloading drivers, deleting drivers (stops it for 5-20sec). How do I fix this

It sounds like you are experiencing a combination of keyboard and audio issues with your Surface Laptop 2. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check for Hardware Issues: Ensure that there are no physical obstructions or damage to the keyboard and trackpad. Sometimes debris can cause keys to stick or malfunction.
    2. Update Drivers: Make sure that all your drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers and firmware for your Surface device from the Download drivers and firmware for Surface page.
    3. Reset the Device: Since you mentioned that resetting sometimes helps, consider performing a full recovery using the Recovery tool (IT Toolkit) or creating a USB recovery drive for Surface to restore your device to factory settings.
    4. Check for Software Conflicts: Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with keyboard and audio functions. Try booting your Surface in Safe Mode to see if the issues persist. If they do not, it may be worth investigating recently installed applications.
    5. Surface Support: If the problem continues after trying these steps, it may be best to contact Surface Support for Business and Education customers for further assistance.

Since the issue has been ongoing for a year, it could also be indicative of a deeper hardware problem that may require professional repair.

    Hey Riley,

Thanks for reaching out to the forum. Your Surface Laptop 2 keyboard issue sounds like a hardware or driver problem.

    Possible Causes:

Keyboard drivers or software glitches could cause random typing or freezing.

Problems with the keyboard or SSD might affect startup.

Since resets only temporarily fix it, it's likely not a simple software issue or virus.

    Troubleshooting Steps:

Full Shutdown: Hold power and volume up for 15 seconds, release, wait 10 seconds, and restart.

Try running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit.

Surface Diagnostic Tool: Run this tool to check for software and driver issues.

USB Windows Reinstall: Create a USB drive and reinstall Windows. Follow Microsoft’s guide to ensure you have the correct software.

SSD Check: See if the computer detects the SSD in settings. If not, reseat or replace it.

Given that the issue has persisted for a year, it’s likely a deeper hardware problem, like the keyboard or main board, given resets only give temporary relief. Contact Microsoft Surface Support for repair or replacement options.

    Riley,

If you have done a full recovery from the downloadable recovery image for your Surface https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface-recovery-image this is likely a hardware issue. Did you try this or not? If yes, unfortunately, Microsoft is no longer offering out of warranty exchanges on SL2's.
