Hi Anon-9606,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum! I understand the frustration to receive long, detailed responses from Copilot, especially when you just want quick answers in troubleshooting Windows issues.
Copilot is designed to be helpful and thorough, which sometimes means extra context or explanations. Currently, there isn’t a global “verbosity” setting in Windows Copilot, but there are some practical ways you can use right now to keep Copilot's responses short and concise:
1 - Custom Instructions in Copilot Settings
- Go to Copilot Settings → Custom Instructions.
- Add guidance like:
- Always keep answers under 100 words.
- Use bullets or numbered steps only.
- Avoid introductions and summaries.
- These instructions apply across your Copilot experience and reduce the need to repeat “be concise”.
2 - Create an Agent with Commands
- Using Copilot Studio, you can build an agent with quick commands such as:
- cmd:bullets3 → 3 bullets, max 12 words each.
- cmd:steps3 → 3 short steps.
- cmd:cmds-only → Commands only, no explanation.
- This gives you predictable, reusable control over response style.
Custom instructions set a baseline for brevity, while command-based agents give you flexibility for special cases. Together, they can make Copilot faster and more consistent for troubleshooting.
