Hi,

On the Authenticator app on my Android phone, i have backed up the accounts. My question is that when i switch to a new phone, retain the same number but upgrade to a 5G SIM card, and restore the back up to the new phone, will i continue to receive the authenticator codes on the new phone**.**

Essentially, will an upgrade of the SIM card (using the same number) cause any problems with receiving the authenticator phones or will it work just fine?

    Hi Ashish,

It won't have any issues. You would need to reverify your Microsoft account on the Authenticator app using an alternative method, such as a one-time password. The rest of the accounts would remain the same.

    I hope this helps you.

When you switch to a new phone and restore your backup of the Microsoft Authenticator app, you should continue to receive authenticator codes as long as you have successfully restored the accounts. The upgrade to a 5G SIM card using the same phone number should not cause any issues with receiving the authenticator codes. The codes are typically sent via the app itself rather than through SMS, so as long as the app is set up correctly on your new device, you should be able to receive the codes without any problems.

However, it is always a good practice to ensure that you have access to your backup methods (like recovery codes) in case you encounter any issues during the transition.
