    Hi @a parrington

Thank you so much for contacting Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Based on the information you shared, I understand you want to set up a rule to automatically forward all emails from your Outlook account to an external email address, like Proton Mail, using Legacy Outlook for Mac.

I'm not sure if you're looking for the steps on how to do this, or if you've already tried and are running into an error. I'll provide information for both scenarios.

Scenario 1: You need the steps to create the forwarding rule

In Legacy Outlook for Mac, this is set up using Rules. Here are the steps for Legacy Outlook for Mac:

    1. With Outlook open, go to the Tools menu at the top of the screen and select Rules....
    2. In the Rules window, select Exchange (if you're using a Microsoft 365 or Exchange account) or Outlook (for other account types) from the left-hand pane.
    3. Click the plus sign (+) at the bottom to create a new rule.
    4. Name your rule (e.g., "Forward All Emails").
    5. Under the "When a new message arrives" section, set the first dropdown to "All messages".
    6. Under the "Do the following" section, set the first dropdown to "Forward To".
    7. An address box will appear. Type in the external email address you want to forward to.
    8. Click OK to save the rule.

Scenario 2: You've tried forwarding, but it's not working

Based on the "For education" tag, you are likely using a school account. Based on my research, almost all schools and businesses disable automatic external forwarding by default as a security policy to prevent data breaches.

Even if you set up the rule correctly (as in Scenario 1), the school's server will block it from sending. You will not be able to change this setting yourself; it must be enabled by your IT administrator.

You will need to contact your school's IT department or IT admin and ask them to enable external forwarding for your account. You can refer your IT admin to this official Microsoft document:

Control automatic external email forwarding from cloud mailboxes

Please let me know if there are any updates. I will continue to support you as best I can.
