Hello Microsoft team,

I am trying to register for a new Microsoft 365 Developer Program E5 sandbox using my company account (******@aitravel.jp).

However, during the signup process, I receive the following error message:

"We can't continue with the signup process for the following reason:

Your phone number is already associated with an existing developer account."

Code: 40901

MS-CorrelationId: 00000000-e212-4c8e-beb5-64d93e80560c

It seems that my phone number is still linked to my old Developer Program account (******@gmail.com).

I no longer have access to the sandbox associated with that Gmail account, and I would like to use the same phone number with my new company account.

Could you please unlink my phone number from the old Gmail-based Developer Program account so that I can register a new E5 sandbox under ******@aitravel.jp?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

Makiko Iwata

(******@aitravel.jp)

    Hi iwata makiko,

The error 40901 means your phone number is still linked to an old Microsoft 365 Developer Program account, which blocks new registration.

First, try signing in to the old Gmail account at Microsoft 365 Developer Program and remove the phone number from the profile.

Second, if you can’t access that account, contact Microsoft Developer Program Support and provide the error code (40901), your current account email, and the old account email. You can open a support ticket on Microsoft Developer Support.

Last, only Microsoft can unlink the phone number from the old account. Once they do, you’ll be able to register your new E5 sandbox.

If this helps, feel free to mark the answer as accepted so others can find it too.

    Best,
    Carl
