We have restarted server for windows patch updates but post restart we are unable to access following drives (D:/E:/G:/).

we have tried multiple options to upgrade storage drivers, BIOS update, permissions on security tab under properties, created other users as administrators but same on the same issue page. can you please suggest if any options to recover our drives. we have multiple HyperV's configured using drives as storage and we are unable to access them due to this error.

Error Description: D:/ is not accessible, Access is denied.

E:/ is not accessible, Access is denied

G:/ is not accessible, Access in denied.

Thanks,

Srujan

Hi Srujan . Based on your description, it appears the drives may have lost their security permissions or ownership mappings post-restart. I recommend checking the NTFS permissions and ownership using the takeown and icacls commands from an elevated Command Prompt to restore access. Additionally, please ensure the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management Service (vmms) is running, as it can sometimes prevent mounted drives from being accessible if the service fails to initialize properly after updates. If the drives are attached via SAN or iSCSI, confirm that the connections were re-established successfully following the reboot.

Please let me know if these steps help resolve the issue
