To be removed from a OneDrive shared archive, you need to contact the person who originally shared it with you. If you no longer have the sharing invitation or the owner's contact details, you can try checking the sharing or file details in OneDrive—these sometimes show the owner's name or email address. Otherwise, you will need to wait for the owner to contact you or manage the permissions, as OneDrive does not provide another way to contact the owner directly. Hiding the file only removes it from your view but does not remove you from the shared list.

    Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch with the Microsoft community. I’d be happy to help you with your OneDrive issue. Before we dive into troubleshooting, I just want to understand a few things. Are you able to open or view the shared file or folder, or does it give you an error when you try? Also, is your OneDrive account linked to a personal email, or is it part of a work or school organization?

That error message “The provided item ID is not valid for the requested drive” usually pops up when the shared item has been moved or deleted by the person who originally shared it. Sometimes it can also be caused by a sync issue between your OneDrive and the shared drive.

Here are a couple of things we can try, If the item is still active and hasn’t been deleted, you can try hiding it from your shared list by going to OneDrive on the web, finding the item under “Shared,” clicking the three dots next to it, and selecting “Hide from Shared.”

If the item was added as a shortcut to your OneDrive, you can remove it by going to your OneDrive folder, finding the shortcut (it’ll have a little link icon), right-clicking it, and choosing “Remove shortcut.”

And if you’re using the OneDrive desktop app, you can stop syncing the folder by right clicking the OneDrive icon in your system tray, going to Settings, then the Account tab, and unchecking the folder under “Choose folders.”

Let me know how it goes, happy to help!

    Warm regards,

    Edward

    Hi,

Thank you for the update, Since the item is an archive and not a folder, that explains why you couldn’t find a “link” or manage access settings archives like .zip files don’t behave the same way in OneDrive’s sharing system. If it was shared with you via OneDrive and you want to remove it from your “Shared” list, but “Hide from Shared” throws an error, it’s likely because the file was moved or deleted by the owner, or the link is broken.

Unfortunately, you can’t remove yourself from a shared file unless the owner revokes access. You might want to reach out to the person who shared it and ask them to remove your email from the sharing list.

    Hope that helps,

    Warm regards,

    Edward
