I am on hotmail.com, the email are not popping up when I type in address bar

In the past, the emails will drop down whenever I type a letter in, now it no longer does it.

I am using chrome browser.

Other users have also complained and it seems it was a bug.

Microsoft has fixed the issue, from my side in the end, I wasnt able to do anything product and the problem was fixed from their end.

I tested this on Microsoft Edge and the email suggestions are showing up as expected, so the issue seems to be specific to Chrome.

Let’s try a bit of troubleshooting on your browser:

First, try clearing the cache and cookies in Chrome and then sign back into Hotmail/Outlook.
You can also check if the problem happens in an incognito window, this helps rule out if an extension is interfering.
If it works there, try disabling your extensions one by one to see which one might be causing the issue.

I have tested this with edge as well and it doesnt work.

It seems to be account specific because I have two outlook accounts.

When I switch to the second account, I dont have any issue with it.

I have tried the following:

Chrome

Main outlook account doesnt work

Secondary outlook account works

Chrome (Different profile and in incognito mode with no extensions)

Main doesnt work

Secondary works

Edge Browser

Main doesnt work

Secondary works

Chrome browser on android phone

Main doesnt work

Secondary works

On the main, I have changed my language and back. No change.

On the main, I have logged in and relogged. No change.

This is the secondary account that works, to me it's very clear that there is something fundamentally wrong going on their side or something in the settings that is preventing the address function from functioning properly.

You’ve done a good job narrowing this down. That really does point to something account-specific rather than a browser issue.

Make sure your contacts are saved to Hotmail/Outlook:

Autocomplete relies on saved contacts or people you’ve previously emailed. If the addresses aren’t in your People/Contacts, try adding one and see if it starts appearing.

Verify that “Suggested people” is enabled:

Go to Settings (gear icon) > General > Privacy and data and look for the "Suggested people" section. Make sure it’s turned On. If it’s already enabled, you should see an option that says “Clear data and turn off”, which confirms it’s active.

Let me know how it goes.

Yeah the address book still exists and I can add the people by searching for the name. It's just the autocomplete being unresponsive.

I think you might be onto something with the suggested people. I tried clicking it multiple times but it has no response.

When I went to check on my secondary account, it was already turned on.

Thank you for letting me know. That confirms it’s not a browser issue but something specific with the account itself.

Normally, that toggle should turn On without any issues. You could try switching it on again, then close the browser and reopen it, or test it on another browser or even another device just to be sure it’s not a temporary glitch.

I mean activate by clicking "Activate expanded contacts suggestions", sorry.

Yes that button. "Activate expanded contacts suggestions". It is unresponsive.

Chrome, Edge, Chrome on Android, it is all unresponsive.

That’s definitely unusual, and I haven’t found other reports of the same issue. Since the “Activate expanded contacts suggestions” button is unresponsive across different browsers and devices, it points to something account-specific on Microsoft’s side.

I suggest sending feedback from Outlook.com (gear icon > Give Feedback) with your screenshots. I’ll also submit feedback on my end.

In the meantime, the workaround is to search contacts manually from your address book when composing emails.
