"Slow Charger" Warning on Surface Laptop Studio 2 Despite Using Original 127W Charger

Hi, I’ve been using my Surface Laptop Studio 2 since December, and I’ve always charged it with the original 127W charger that came with the device. Recently, I started getting a warning saying it's a "slow charger" and that I should use a higher-wattage charger. (It's this one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/microsoft-surface-127w-power-supply/8m9zfxkg88d8?activetab=pivot:overviewtab)

This is confusing because:

  • The charger is the one bundled with the laptop.
  • It meets the 127W requirement listed for my model.
  • There’s no visible damage to the charger or port.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a firmware issue, a misread by the system, or something I should be concerned about? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

    Emily,

The NVidia models ship with a 120W charger (the replacement is 127W), so is your 127W charger a replacement charger? Do you have anything plugged in to the USB port on the charger that could be drawing power? Is anything plugged into the USB ports on the laptop itself? Is the charger plugged into a power strip or directly into the wall (and have you tried a different outlet)?

I've seen 2 or 3 reports like this over the years, but not a 'trend'.
