Can you help me access the "Edit in Grid View" mode on the SharePoint mobile app with embedded Lists?

My organization is using a SharePoint page for our large staff of ~120 people. We frequently use the "Microsoft Lists" app on mobile, however it does not offer the "Edit in Grid View" mode on mobile. This would be an awesome feature for us to use on our mobile devices, ideally through the SharePoint app (we have Lists embedded in our SharePoint page). The mobile browser version on Edge and Chrome do not have this feature either unfortunately. Can you help me access the "Edit in Grid View" mode on the mobile SharePoint app in my embedded Lists?

    Hi @Ryan K,

Thank you for reaching out and asking about the "Edit in Grid View" feature on the SharePoint mobile app.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

We understand this is a very important feature for your team, especially when working on mobile devices. However, we would like to inform you that currently, the "Edit in Grid View" feature is only supported on desktop web browsers. This functionality has not yet been integrated into the SharePoint mobile app or mobile browsers by Microsoft.

Why it’s not available on mobile:

    • Grid view is a complex interface, requiring many HTML table elements and editable fields, which are difficult to use on small touch screens.
    • Features like drag-to-fill and multi-cell selection are not touch-friendly, making the experience inconvenient if enabled on mobile.
    • Therefore, by design, mobile apps and interfaces prioritize editing one item at a time to ensure stability and simplicity.

    Alternative approaches you may consider:

    1. Use mobile browser in desktop mode
      • Access SharePoint via Firefox or Safari on a tablet and request the desktop version of the site.
      • The “Edit in Grid View” button may appear, but touch interactions are often unstable. Some users report better input when using an external keyboard.
    2. Edit via Excel/CSV
      • Export the list to Excel using the “Export to Excel” feature or via Power Automate.
      • Use the Excel mobile app to edit in table format, then re-import the data into SharePoint.
      • This method requires careful data handling and is best suited for experienced users.
    3. Build a custom PowerApps solution
      • If your organization has PowerApps development capabilities, you can create a mobile-optimized app for list editing.
      • This allows editing multiple items through a gallery or data table interface.

Once again, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to share them with me. I’m here to support you.
