Dear @Caryl Jones,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand that technical issues can be frustrating, and I’d love to help you resolve this. Before giving you the best solution, could you please confirm these questions below to help me diagnose the issue more effectively:
- What hardware are you using for Teams?
- A certified Microsoft Teams Rooms device (Windows or Android)?
- Or just a dedicated PC/mini‑PC running the Teams app?
- What’s the TV brand and model?
- **How is the TV connected? (**Direct HDMI from the Teams device/PC? Or through an AV switcher, extender, or soundbar?)
- Is this a single‑display setup or dual displays in the room?
According to my research, the easiest way to stop walking up to the TV and pressing Source is to let the TV (and the Teams device) do it automatically via HDMI‑CEC, the control signal built into HDMI that can power on the display and switch to the active input.
If You have a Microsoft Teams Rooms (Windows or Android) device on this TV
1/ Use a CEC‑capable HDMI path
- Connect the Teams Rooms compute/bar directly to the TV’s HDMI (preferably HDMI 1). Avoid adapters/switchers that don’t pass CEC.
- Teams Rooms designs assume the front‑of‑room display can sleep/wake on HDMI sync and ideally support HDMI‑CEC or PC Mode so it switches on and to the correct input automatically.
2/ Enable the TV’s CEC feature
TV vendors brand CEC differently (e.g., Samsung “Anynet+”, LG “Simplink”, Sony “Bravia Sync.”) Ensure it’s On and set to Power on with CEC / Auto input switch (wording varies).
- On the TV remote, go to Settings > General > External Device Manager (or similar).
- Look for HDMI‑CEC (it might be called Anynet+, Simplink, or Bravia Sync depending on the brand).
- Turn it ON.
- If you see Auto Input Switch or Power on with CEC, turn those ON too.

3/ Put the TV on a different input.
- Start or join a Teams meeting on the device.
- The TV should switch to the correct HDMI automatically
Tip for reliability
- If your TV has a PC Mode, enable it for that HDMI port, this reduces image processing and improves detection/wake behavior.
- Make sure CEC is ON in the TV menu.
- Try a different HDMI port (prefer HDMI 1).
- Remove any HDMI splitters or extenders that might block CEC.
- If the TV still won’t switch, you may need a small HDMI‑CEC adapter (your IT team can provide this).
