I completely agree with this request. Microsoft needs to stop forcing useless things into the view and give users the option to toggle them on or off. I'd guess 99% of users don't want wasted screen real estate taken up by what Microsoft deems necessary.
Remove threads and mentions from Teams view.
Teams enforced Threads and Mentions as important categories at the top. I don't want these anti-features, please remove or add an option. Feels strange having to mod them out with extensions.

Welcome to Q&A forum!
I understand that you prefer not to have the “Threads” and “Mentions” categories pinned at the top of your Teams view.
To make sure we're aligned and can better address your concern, could you please confirm if you're referring to the “Threads” and “Mentions” sections visible under the Chat tab, like the ones shown in this image?
If it's correct, unfortunately, Microsoft Teams does not offer a built-in setting to remove or hide the “@Mentions” bar from the Chat tab. This feature is part of the app’s design to manage notifications and interactions.
I personally agree that these features might not be suitable for some users. Therefore, your feedback is truly valuable for improving the product experience. Here’s how you can submit your suggestion to Microsoft
- Visit the Microsoft Feedback Portal:
- Go to: Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub → Send Feedback→ Describe your proposal in detail
- Upvote & collaborate: Check existing suggestions and upvote similar ones. The more votes an idea gets, the higher its priority!
Once again, please notice and accept my apologies that as moderators in the community, we are not supported for the product design and have limited resources for the advanced info for Microsoft products. To help you send your feedback and requirements to the related development team, we have redirected you to the correct path.
Besides, I’ve tried a few ways to help you with this inconvenient situation. Please take a look and see if this is what you need:
While you can't remove the mentions bar entirely, you can mute notifications related to mentions:
Turn Off Mention and Thread Notifications
- Go to Settings → Notifications → Chat
- Toggle off “@mentions” and reactions
- Toggle off "Replies to Followed threads and "post"
- Toggle off "Posts in all show channels"
Thank you for your understanding and kindness in this issue.

I have voted up the existing requests on Microsoft page, but users are tend to create a new request instead of voting for existing ones. Unfortunately the highest one has 35 votes, which is not giving any priority, and a huge shame. Ppl, please vote, just search for 'mentions follwed threads' and vote for the highest one (or all posts ;) ) .
Greetings, Robert

I think, and also me too, have a problem with this part.
Those 2 lines (@Mentions + Followed threads) are worth of 3-4 channels to not to be shown on main screen of ours.
And please bear in mind that, mostly we are using business style work computers which has small screens, those lines are precious for us to not to lose them.
And on top of my TEAMs I want to see my teams not notification section of any. You already have ACTIVITY part for it.
Thx, BR.
