Since 20/08/2028 on android. if we open an xls as attachment in outlook , or in teams, or sharepoint. And we open it for editing then we get following error:

Can't open file.

Switch to your work or school account in the Excel app to open this managed file.
Excel - settings. Shows the email adress with second title 'work or school account'

If we open Excel app and open last opened file, then we can edit.
Searched online and found nothing helpfull. Screen <10 inch. Software android is latest. In the Play store all apps are updated.

It seems like the hand over between the applications on android is broken. How to fix?

    Hi E. Vandewege

Thank you for reaching out regarding the issue with opening Excel files from Outlook on your Android device. To better assist you and fully understand the scenario, could you please capture what happens on your device when you open an Excel file from Outlook? A screenshot or short screen recording would be very helpful.

Please also confirm whether you have the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word installed on your device. From my testing device, when opening an attachment from Outlook, the file opens within Outlook itself rather than directly through the Excel app. It would be great if you could test this on your device and let us know what happens. I have attached a screenshot from my testing device for more clarity.

Additionally, is your device managed by your organization, for example through Intune or another MDM solution? This information will help us determine whether the issue is related to app handover, account configuration, or device management policies.

Please understand that our initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Looking forward to your response so we can assist you further.

We have the same issue. Android users are getting the error for "Can't open file. Switch to your work or school account in the M365 Copilot app to open this managed file." I am already signed in, and so is the other user. Its like it is not doing the handoff correctly. Has there been any traction on this? This screenshot I am trying to open a pdf. Same happens with excel files.
