How do I update Windows 11 24H2 on a Surface Go 2 tablet? There is only about 64Gb space on it but there is also a 4Tb drive attached.

Every installation attempt for the latest update results in a message about ccreating more space, but nothing to say how much space, or whether it can use an attached hard drive.

The same happens with the Windows 365 updates.

Can Microsoft provide an answer to this. There are related questions on the site but no answers from Microsoft.

    Hi Barry,

To install Windows 11 24H2, your device needs at least 64 GB of free space on the system drive, which is the minimum requirement for both upgrades and clean installs. However, for smoother performance and future updates, it's recommended to have 100 GB or more available.

A clean installation typically uses around 27 GB at first, but this will grow over time as updates and apps accumulate. Since your Surface Go 2 only has 64 GB of internal storage, you can still proceed with the update, but you may need to take a few steps to make room. These include removing unused apps and files, using an external USB drive for temporary storage during the update, or enabling Compact OS mode to compress system files and save space. Hope this clarifies things up on your end,

    Best,
    Jeric.
