Excel and iPad

I would appreciate some feedback on the compatibility of Microsoft Excel with iPads and what I need to be aware of if I go ahead and buy a new iPad or an older reconditioned model.

The primary purpose for this is to have access to Excel when I am out and about and want to be productive. A laptop is a bit too cumbersome for this.

I have an iPhone and have found Excel problematic on my current model an iPhone 13, which I will shortly upgrade to a iPhone 16 (possibly Pro).

It's simply a question of whether the iPad will give me the go anywhere access I'm after or I need to find another solution in tablet form.

Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi, JohnLlUK

Thanks for posting in the community.

I understand your concern about the ability of the iPad to fulfill your need for access everywhere.

All Microsoft 365 plans allow you to view documents using the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote apps for iOS or Android devices. However, the features and files available to you depend on if you have a Microsoft 365  qualifying plan or non-qualifying plan, or if you have a one-time purchase of Office.

    • Check your plan: *1 Editing available only on screen sizes up to 10.9 inches. *2 Editing available only on screen sizes up to 10.1 inches. Some qualifying plans have a screen size limit of 10.9 inches for editing in the Microsoft 365 mobile apps. And all non-qualifying plans have a screen size limit of 10.1 inches. For example, if you're using an iPad Pro with a 12.9 inch screen, you must have a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan with access to the desktop apps to edit files.

    • Based on feedback from the Microsoft community, the Excel experience on the iPad is different from the Windows version, with fewer features in the iPad version of the Office/Microsoft 365 apps. Below are links to the relevant references:

    • Also if you are planning to purchase a new iPad or an older refurbished model, it is recommended that you make sure your device has been updated to the latest version of iOS for optimal compatibility and performance.

Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.
