How do I reference the name header for a report in Access?

I have formatted a label in each footer to reference a name for each quarter/year, but it is not translating correctly when I preview it.

For example, in the footer of the design view, I have… =“Total for “ and [saleQuarter] in hope for it to read on the report Total for Quarter 1, Quarter 2, Quarter 3, so on and so forth throughout the report for each group. Instead of referencing the quarter it is leaving the text exactly as typed.

Am I incorrectly formatting it or do I need to change settings?

We need details about the report. A screenshot in design view would be helpful, for instance.

I have attached a picture of both the design view and print preview with the highlighted text in question.

    This is the design view.

This is how the text is appearing on the print preview when it should reference the quarter/ year the information is in.

    Thanks.

Ah, you tried to concatenate the value using the English word "and". I overlooked that actually, in the original question.

In an expression, use the ampersand to concatenate.

    =“Total for “ & [saleQuarter]

    and

    =“Total for “ & [saleYear]

    etc.
