Why won’t Mircosoft authenticator send me a notification to enter code?

I have recently got a new phone and have tried to login to my university app where all my lecture notes are that I need. But after I enter my password and a code comes up for the microsoft authenticator app, I don’t get a notification from the authenticator app to enter the code I had been given. I’ve tried opening the app to see if it’s there but it’s not. Nothing comes up. I’ve also tried to use outlook for a code but I need to log in, and will also get a code I can’t use. I also don’t have access to my old phone to see if i’m getting notifications on that. What do I do?
