Hi, I'd like to increase disk capacity of this device - the 64GB drive space is not enough... Can you replace the current drive for a bigger one? or explain how can I do this myself? Please advice and let me know prices, and capacity available for new drive replacement service. Thank you!

Very sorry to hear about your issues with Surface Go. The Surface Go 2, has its storage soldered in the motherboard, which means it not designed for user-replaceable storage.Hereare a detailed explanation of your options:

    >Since the storage is not user-replaceable, the safest and most reliable option is to have a professional service handle the replacement. This involves desoldering the existing eMMC storage and soldering a new one, which requires specialized equipment and expertise.

    > Attempting this by own is highly risky due to the precision required in desoldering and soldering micro components. I wont recommned it.

    >Best solution is to use External Storage like MicroSD Card as Surface Go 2 has a microSD card slot. You can use high-capacity microSD cards (up to 1TB), Use USB-C or USB-A storage devices for additional space ot use and external hard disk attachment wit USB.

If you need further assistance or if any of these steps are unclear, please let me know.

    Hi Sandeep,

Didn't knew this option. Sounds good! Will give it a try.

Still...one further question, if you please: mainly the space is running out due to system updates(not even enough for windows 11 update at the moment) - it's a machine with only windows and microsoft365, nothing much. (all work files are being stored in onedrive). Is it a good idea to move the Operating system to the microSD card? Doesn't seem a good way to me, but I'm not sure. Can you advice on the best way to manage the Operating system space issue, in the context of having the micro SD added? Maybe some way to tell OS to use the extra space of the new card?

Thank you for the quick reply!

    Kind regards,

    Claudino

    Hello!

Installing Windows on an SD Card will slow it down. You should keep Windows on the current drive.

To free up space, you can install programs on the SD Card instead of the Main Drive. When you install a program, it asks you which path you want to install the program. Simply choose the SD Card path.

For more space, set up OneDrive on your laptop so that your files are stored in the cloud instead of on your local computer.

Always keep your system clean. Clean it regularly.

    How to clean the Windows

    1. Download Microsoft PC Manager from the link below (click on ''View in Store'')

    https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9pm860492szd?...

    1. Open the app.
    • Use the ''Health Check'' option to check the health of your computer.
    • Use the ''Deep Cleaner'' option to clear temporary files and cache (select all).
    • Use the ''Startup'' option and disable the apps you don't want to start up together with the system - this increases Windows' startup speed and prevents some unnecessary apps from running in the background.
    1. Restart your computer.

    Hi Manoel,

Regarding the original problem reported above, I've followed your advices, but unfortunately it didn't solve the lack of space. The SD card only accepted a few programs, and although the OS is optimized and at minimum functionalities it uses most of the 64GB of the main drive.
I've seen some companies online that offer the main drive replacement service, but I'd prefer, and think would be safer to have this done by microsoft.
Can you/Microsoft quote a bigger drive replacement, and how can I order it, please?

    Thank you!

    Kind regards,

    Claudino
