Web Teams 134 versions over heats Apple Silicon Macs

Ever since 133.0.3065.69 version of Microsoft Edge if you run Web Teams in Microsoft Edge on a Apple Silicon device it causes the temperature on the Mac to rise from 45C to approximately 85C in a very short amount of time. Ultimately it crashes the Apple Silicon Mac. This can be regularly repeated upon a M1 MAX and a M4 Max. Unfortunately I do not have access to a M2 or 3 to try. I've tried this on 14.7.2 and 15.3.1 of teh MACOS and it is consistent. Every version of Edge post that above I have tried and each has the same issues with regards to Web Teams and driving up the heat of the CPU until it reboots the device. In some cases it also over heats my external doc. Rolling back the 134 versions to 133, without removing any of the data restores the operation of Web Teams with Microsoft Edge. Using Web Teams with Chrome on these same machines does not have this overheating experience. Intel Macs running 14.7 on the updated versions of Edge with Web Teams do not exhibit this problem. Hence there appears to be some incompatibility that has been created in the later versions of Edge only with Apple Silicon devices.

    Hi,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. I am happy to help you today.

Please download and run Edge Dev from the following page; it installs as a separate program for testing purposes.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/download/i...

Let me know if the Web Teams experience the same issue with Edge Dev, as this would confirm that it is a bug with the retail version of Microsoft Edge.

I look forward to your response and am eager to collaborate until we find a solution.

I have only tried the M1 Max (Macos 14.7.2) in a 10 minute video with Microsoft Edge Dev 136.0.3193.0 call at present. In this instance the tempertaure went from 54 to 65C and then returned to 62C. In the stable version of edge the temperature would have promted to 84C within this time.

I will try the M4 Max at some stage today.

For sure - if it works correctly, the issue will likely be resolved in the next update. Do keep us posted.

I have tracked this through versions 134 and now 135.0.3179.54. Teams on Edge is still not working correctly with video. In this version video is flickering and largle just a non-descript blur like it is trying to focus else where. Teams works perfectly in Chrome. This is identical on 2 different MAC M1 MAX and M4 Max. Solution to use Web Teams is to either use Chrome or to forec remaining on Edge 133.0.3065.69. Getting rather bored of trying each version of Edge to see it is still broken but the Dev versions work.

Apple security update resulted in updating my edge. 135.0.3179.85 is still broken with video on both a m1 and m4 mac running web teams. Almost a month later. Just revert to using chrome.
