Hi
Welcome to Microsoft community.
To enable 5.1 speakers in the Edge browser, you can follow these steps:
- Disable Startup Boost in Microsoft Edge: Every time you close Microsoft Edge, no process will continue to run in the background. To disable Startup Boost in Microsoft Edge, you can follow these steps:
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click on the Settings button (Alt + F) and select Settings from the menu.
- On the left, click on System and performance.
- On the right, turn off the Startup Boost toggle option.
- You can now close the Edge settings page.
- Disable Edge in Task Manager: If it hasn’t already been removed by disabling “startup boost”, disable via task manager > startup of “Microsoft Edge”. Otherwise, edge.exe will be started in the background and will not use the Flag: "–try-supported-channel-layouts".
- Modify Shortcut: Add
--try-supported-channel-layoutsto the target path of the shortcut that’s on your desktop. It will look something like this:"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Microsoft\\Edge\\Application\\msedge.exe" --try-supported-channel-layouts. - Check Sound Settings: Press Windows Key + I to open Settings. Click on System and then click on Sound. Under Sound settings, scroll down and click on to “App volume and device preferences”. Check the setting for Edge.
- Configure Speakers: Ensure that your output speakers are configured to be using the right settings as 5.1 surround by going to mmsys.cpl>select your speakers>configure speakers>5.1 or 7.1 surround. Click next and so on.
If these steps do not work, you might want to consider using a different browser that supports 5.1 audio output.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.
