Could Norton VPN be slowing down my computer and using my data?

Hi,

I have recently had all my data used up for the first time with the same provider since 2016. The only thing I can attibute it to is Norton VPN as I started getting popups from Norton at the time re VPN permissions. I note that at this time Norton installed Wireguard and other files. I have chatted with Norton numerous times on this with them saying it is not possible. They have said to set a data limit, and told me to change my VPN to a differnt country. My computer is running really slow from around the same time.

I have gone through all Microsoft procedures to speed up my computer. Nothing is changing.

I have also had Microsoft KB5034441 updates fail and pending an answer to a question, I will go through the script fix.

Any thoughts? Is it possible VPN could be responsible for data use and slowing of computer? 64bit OS, x64-based processor, Intel(R) Core i5-7500 CPU, 3.4GHz, 8GB RAM

A VPN - any VPN - will slow your internet access somewhat, because of the encryption and decryption involved. But it will not make your computer slow, nor does a VPN use any more data than would be used without a VPN.

    Hi JoliHideawayGully,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

VPNs do use data. No doubt in that. Since you have limited data, did you set your connection as metered?

    Select Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.

Select the Wi-Fi network > Properties > turn on Set as metered connection

I will recommend removing Norton for a month for troubleshooting purposes.

I am looking forward to your response and am committed to working with you until we resolve this.

Why select Manage known networks. There is no explanation for that Sumit.
