Edge has taken over permissions of my laptop and has rendered my specialized software for my job rendering my the software unusable.  Edge h as also erased my history and indexed all of my documents so that I am unable to open the indexed files up.  This is the second laptop it has infected.  How do I get rid of this hideous program?  I feel like I am living The Terminator movie.  I tried working with Edge, we are not compatible. I am unable to work. I am losing time, money, sleep and peace of mind. How do I exterminate him?

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William. I'm a Windows technical expert. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Run appwiz.cpl and uninstall Microsoft Edge. Afterwards, follow below to make the necessary changes the keep Edge Chromium from reinstalling:

Run regedit.exe (you will need to be an admin).

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft

Right-click the Microsoft key (folder icon) > select New > select Key > name it EdgeUpdate

Right-click EdgeUpdate > select New > select DWORD 32-bit > name it DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium and assign a value of 1

Alternatively, create a new text document on your desktop and append the name to change the .txt to .reg. Edit the new file and paste the following:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate]
    "DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium "=dword:00000001

Save the file and double-click to import the new setting into the registry.

I don't know if this fixed the problem yet... I ran appwiz.cpl but it doesn't give the option to uninstall Edge, just change (we only wish that it would change.) I did do the regedit then restarted my computer and at least Edge didn't pop upon restart but I'll hold off my celebration until after the next update to see if it holds.

Now if I could figure out why windows mail stopped sending mail through my pop3 server but Outlook will even though both of the will receive it  ....
