Surface is bloated but barely has anything on it

My Surface Go 2 was purchased a while back but after being serviced for a software issue it's storage is filled up with something but I am unable to locate what it is. I suspect it's Window's files from updates as I have barely anything installed since I keep most of my stuff on cloud. It's meant to have 57.1GB of storage on the local hard-drive but I only have around 6GB free and that's after I did a Disk Cleanup and cleared what little apps I had installed. Should I just try to wipe the drive and factory reset?

    Hi YangYYYY,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, your Surface Go 2 is now only left with around 6GB of free storage even if you only have several applications installed and files are also saved mostly on the cloud. May I know first what is the total capacity of your Surface Go 2's drive? Please try checking this page also for the available disk space for each Surface model: Surface storage options and hard drive sizes - Microsoft Support

To troubleshoot the issue and to free up some space on your drive, please follow the steps provided on this page: Free up drive space in Windows - Microsoft Support

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,
    Marrion

My Device is a Surface Go 2 with a Pentium processor and 4GB of RAM and 64GB harddrive, according to that table, it should have 28GB. I have tried clearing out what I can and managed to free up to 14.9GB out of 57.1GB. 24.6GB is occupied by system files but Apps & Features occupy 14.8GB which I can't figure out why as it's telling me I have 55 apps and biggest is about 360MB and with those that are over 100MB able to be counted on one hand, with multiple preinstalled Microsoft apps and features. I'm not sure where all those extra gigabytes are coming from.

I just took a calculator and manually added all the sizes of the apps and I came to around 1.7GB total, so I don't know where the 13GB came from

    Hi YangYYYY,

Thank you for the response and sorry to hear that still there is around 13GB of storage that we could not find where or what is taking it up.

I would like to confirm though, have you tried checking the temporary files folder if it is empty already? To check, press Windows key + R, type %temp% and click OK. The File Explorer should open with the contents of the Temporary Files folder. if there are still files saved unto it, try moving these files first to an external drive just to make sure that no data will be lost then follow the steps provided here to clear the Microsoft Store cache: Low Disk Space error due to a full Temp folder - Microsoft Support.

if still issue persists or Temporary Files folder is empty already, try to check if there is a Windows.old folder on the device. Open the File Explorer, select This PC on the left the select the Local Disk (C:). See if Windows.old folder is listed. If yes, you may move this folder to an external drive also in case of need to recover the Surface to its previous version.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion
