Complete failure of dynamic multimedia extensions...

Has anyone had issues with inappropriate dynamic images on ads?

Microsoft has completely failed our company (via dynamic multimedia extensions) and allowed image-automation of a bloody and sliced wrist in conjunction with our paid ad title and link. We do not host or have the image utilized on our website or product pages. We are getting complaints about this, naturally...

Per Microsoft's "Disallowed Content Policies":

  • “Advertising is not allowed that advocates, glorifies or promotes rape, torture, human cannibalism, human suffering or death, self-harm, violence against animals, or graphic or violent images, such as images showing blood or dismemberment.”

If anyone were to actually use this image in an ad, it would be immediately removed...but Microsoft has no issue dynamically attaching these images to our ads? This is a major failure on Microsoft Ads’ part to adequately police its image population/automation and to prevent its auto-generated images from utilizing illegal and/or harmful content. This does not happen with Google or Facebook Ad platforms...

We've opted out of "dynamic multimedia extensions" but we are not confident in Microsoft that this is enough to prevent this from happening again. Any suggestions on how to move forward?

    Hi kmeast,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Advertising forum. I hope this message finds you well.

Firstly, I would like to mention that we do take these matters seriously, and as you quoted in your message, Microsoft Advertising strictly prohibits any of the scenarios within the Disallowed Content Policies. With this being said, I would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Typically, if a user came across an advertisement that does not follow our policies, we encourage all to report the ad via the Low quality ad submission & escalation form, so they can reviewed and taking down - if deemed in violation.

However, in this situation I would like to ensure this is resolved as soon as possible, so any future dynamic automated extensions perform as they are designed to.

Please reply to my private message with the details outlined, so I can ensure there is no time missed in rectifying this.

I am eagerly waiting on your reply.

    Thanks,

Damian | Microsoft Advertising Support Specialist | 800-518-5689
