Dear @951867704,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Regarding the error message you encountered in Microsoft Word: “We’re sorry, but Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to be closed as a result.”, to make sure we're aligned and avoid from any misunderstanding, please let me know a few details about your issue by answering these questions:
- Are you signed in with a personal account (e.g., @hotmail.com, @outlook.com), an education account (e.g., @school.edu), or a work/school account (e.g., @yourcompany.com)? Could you confirm if you're signed into the correct account?
- May I know your Word version? Kindly ensure it has the latest update. In Word, go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
- Which Windows version are you running (e.g., Windows 10, Windows 11)?
In the meantime, here are some steps I recommend you try while waiting for investigating:
Step 1: Start Excel in Safe Mode
Step 2: Disable Add-ins
In Safe Mode, go to: File > Options > Add-ins and disable any suspicious add-ins
Step 3: Repair Microsoft Office
If a Microsoft 365 application such as Word or Excel isn't working correctly, sometimes restarting it will fix the problem. If that doesn't work, you can try repairing it. When you're done, you might need to restart your computer. **Please follow **Repair an Office application
Repair options from the Settings page
- Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the More ... icon next to the app you want to fix.
- Select Advanced options (some apps don't have this option).
- Select the Microsoft 365 or Office product you want to repair, click the ellipses, and select Modify.
- In the page that opens, select Repair if it's available. If it isn't available or doesn't fix the problem, select Reset.
Note: Depends on your Microsoft 365 or Office installation type (Click-to-run or MSI-based), you'll see the following options to proceed with the repair. Follow the steps for your installation type.
Repair options from the Control Panel
- In the search box on the taskbar, enter control panel and select Control Panel from the results.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Right-click the program you want to fix and select Repair, or if that’s not available, select Change, then choose Quick Repair (or Online Repair if needed).
- Then follow the directions on the screen.
Step 4: Update Office
Open any other Office app (like Excel) > File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
